Seven Arguments Against Phone Calls
Calls used to be both exciting and essential. Now they’re neither. For the most part, they’re intrusive and disruptive.
Before you start wording your disagreement, please read on, and know that I understand this isn’t a popular take. I’m 40 years old, and anyone near my age, and certainly anyone older than me, is already thinking, “What is this Gen Z garbage!”
I was nervous to publish this because there’s a weird societal pressure to be an adult and make a phone call.
Since I’ve been old enough to have a phone in my pocket, boomers have been giving a nonstop, collective “Just grow up and make a phone call” speech.
I think the boomers give a lot of terrible advice, so much so that I wrote a blog about it. This pressure to make phone calls when they’re essentially the least enjoyable form of communication didn’t make that list.
This idea deserves its own blog.
My Thesis
My thesis is that, in general, we don’t like getting phone calls.
