My Top 5 Books of 2024
My Reading Recap and the “Best Of” from this past year
At the end of 2022, I realized that I read exactly 20 books that year. I then decided to check how many books I had read the previous year in 2021 and was pleased to find a second list of 20 books, a soothing number. Twenty is a number you can hold in your hands.
However, in 2023, I read 21 books, breaking my streak. Obviously, books are all different lengths and I just read what’s recommended to me, or what my virtual library has available. Reading almost the exact same amount of books 3 years in a row seemed more coincidental than anything.
Still, I was eager to check my reading list at the end of 2024.
After tallying the score, I’m starting to think the number is less of a coincidence and more a result of reading every day. I start and end every day with my Kindle in my hands.
This year I read a nearly 1000-page western, and also re-read a book from middle school. The page numbers seem to balance out in the wash, and I found that this year I read 19 books, including two of the longest and best books I’ve ever read in my life. It’s not a shiny round number, but I’m pleased by the consistency.
It’s exactly 40 books over the past two years and 80 over the past 4. Nice.
