I’ve had a few people mention this… but I dunno… I dress well I think, haha. I’ll agree some US travelers have this sort of “sloppy” style—but it’s generally the cruise/all-inclusive crowd from what I’ve observed. Hostel hoppers and real backpackers generally blend in with the travel crowd and I think “American style” is too hard to pin down, it’s a big ole’ country with a really wide array of “styles.” But when I picture the deck of a cruise ship… I see what you’re saying.
